Growing facial hair is a standard task for many men. However, getting it to grow evenly can be challenging, especially if this is your first attempt at growing a mustache, beard or goatee. Rest assured, however, there is a way to get your facial hair to grow evenly -- and you can do so in a relatively short period of time with minimal effort.

Step 1

Stop shaving any part of your face for several weeks. During this time, the hair will likely be uneven, patchy and scruffy. This is okay and normal. Waiting about eight weeks for your facial hair to grow out is a good way to ensure you have full coverage before you try to groom the hair into a style you want.

Step 2

Trim your facial hair so it is all the same length. The hair on your chin might grow faster than on your upper lip, so trimming the hair into an even length will help promote even growth.

Step 3

Shape your facial hair using a razor and clippers. If you just want a mustache, apply a shaving cream to your cheeks and chin and shave off the hair. If you want a goatee, be careful to shave the hair evenly on either side of your face. Use the trimmers to groom your mustache or beard into an even length.

Step 4

Maintain your facial hair. Wash it using a mild shampoo a few times a week and apply a conditioner as well to prevent the hair from feeling wiry or rough. Trim the hair once a week to ensure it doesn't get too long.
