How to Replace a Proform Treadmill Belt

ProForm produces a variety of exercise machines intended for use in the home, including a line of motorized treadmills. While certain models may have different features than others, most share a basic design: a walking belt looped around the treadmill's deck moves forward when the motor unit turns a drive belt. Friction can wear away at the walking belt over time, affecting the treadmill's ability to function properly. In order to install a replacement, you must first disassemble part of the device's base.

Step 1

Set the treadmill to its lowest incline setting, then kneel down next to the motor housing, located beneath the device's console unit. Flip the power switch to the "off" or "reset" position, then unplug the power cord.

Step 2

Inspect the sides of the motor housing and use the phillips screwdriver to remove all of the screws that secure the upper half of the housing to the treadmill's frame. Lift the upper half of the housing free and set it aside.

Step 3

Move to the rear of the treadmill's walking deck and use the allen wrench to remove the two bolts installed in the rear end caps. Pull the end caps free and set them aside. If there are additional end caps attached to the front end of the deck, remove the screws securing them in place; detach the front end caps and set them aside.

Step 4

Remove the side rails from the treadmill's base. Remove the drive belt from the front roller, then remove the bolt securing the roller in place. Slide the front and rear rollers free of the treadmill belt. Remove the screws securing the right side of the treadmill's deck to the frame. Loosen the screws securing the left side of the deck.

Step 5

Lift the right side of the treadmill's deck and slide the walking belt off. Slide the replacement belt onto the deck. Replace the screws on the right side of the deck, then tighten the screws on the left side of the deck. Reinsert the front and rear rollers; reconnect the drive belt to the front roller. Lift the upper half of the walking belt and spread silicone lubricant across the center of the deck.

Step 6

Replace the side rails and the rear end caps. Use the previously removed bolts to secure the rear end caps to the rear roller. Reattach the front end caps, if present. Reattach the upper half of the motor housing. Reconnect the treadmill's power cord, then set the power switch to the "on" position.
