Swim camps are designed to maximize a swimmer's potential and to improve her competitive swimming skill. Near Litchfield County, Connecticut, is a camp that was selected by Sports Illustrated Kids as one of the "Best Swimming Sports Camps" in the United States. This day swim camp has weekly sessions in July and August for kids ages 7 to 17.

Peak Performance offers a swim camp in Fairfield County, Connecticut, at various times throughout the year. Fairfield County borders Litchfield County. This camp is easily accessible from I-95. Facilities at the Peak Performance Camp include a state-of-the-art Olympic-size swimming pool. Peak Performance offers three separate swimming camps--an Elite, Advance and 10 & Under camp. These camps are designed to address the varying needs and abilities of swimmers.
Expectations
Swim camps are designed to promote a swimmer's physical, technical and mental preparedness for competition. The Elite Training Camp focuses on physical conditioning with a portion of the training dedicated to technical conditioning. At the Advance Training Camp, an equal amount of time is dedicated to technical and physical conditioning. For 10 & Under Camps, young swimmers spend the majority of their time working on technical conditioning with only 25 percent of instruction dedicated to physical conditioning.
Typical Day
A typical day at swim camp varies depending upon age. For the 10 and under swimmers, camp lasts for three hours per day. The day begins with a 45-minute dry-land session followed by a 30-minute classroom session that focuses on mental conditioning, nutrition and technique. The end of the day, children will have a two-hour in-water session.
Both Advance and Elite Training Camps run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day begins with an hour of dry-land training followed by a two-and-a-half-hour swim. After a 30-minute break for lunch, swimmers have either a 45-minute in-classroom session or a yoga session. The day ends with a two-hour swim session.
Benefits
Swim camp allows for your child to improve his swim skills in a positive and enthusiastic environment. At Peak Performance, former Olympic coach Nick Baker teaches lessons. Camps have an 8-to-1 swimmer-to-coach ratio. In addition to Coach Baker, knowledgeable coaches instruct swimmers through lessons that focus on mental, technical and physical fitness.
Cost
The different swim camps offered around Litchfield County vary in price. As of 2010, the Elite Training Camp, which is available to children ages 13 to 17, costs $1,000 per week. The Advanced Training Camp, which is open to children ages 11 to 17, costs $900 per week. The 10 & Under camp is offered to children ages 7 to 10. This half-day camp costs $450 per week.
