The idea that you can forcibly cleanse your liver and gallbladder is popular, though unproven by Western science. Your liver and gallbladder naturally detox your body. Still, a day spent eating nothing but fresh fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water and resting will give your liver and gallbladder the chance to do their jobs free from added toxins. A liver and gallbladder cleanse doesn't actually force your body to detox faster, but the extra nourishment and support may inspire you to adopt a healthier diet.

Step 1

Squeeze the juice of one or two lemons into a 16 oz glass of filtered water. Add half of a peeled grapefruit and 1 to 2 tbsp of olive oil. Mix the contents in the blender until it has emulsified. Drink it immediately because the ingredients will separate if you let them sit. Stay close to your bathroom for the rest of the day, as the olive oil and the fiber in the grapefruit may have a laxative effect. According to WHFoods.com, grapefruit helps to boost your liver's production of enzymes that fight carcinogens.

Step 2

Snack on fresh, organic apples and drink unfiltered organic apple juice throughout the day. Apples are high in vitamin C, which supports liver health. They are also high in fiber and natural sugars that will help to keep you full and stabilize your blood sugar.

Step 3

Eat a salad or soup made from organic vegetables for lunch and dinner. Vegetables are easier to digest than meats or processed starches, so this is a good way to give your digestive system a short rest.

Step 4

Take a total of 280 to 450 mg per day of a milk thistle supplement, divided into two to four doses. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, milk thistle contains a compound called silymarin that helps the liver to repair damage caused by exposure to alcohol and other toxins.

Step 5

Drink a cup of herbal peppermint tea at the end of the day to soothe and support your gallbladder as you sleep. According to experts at the University of Maryland Medical Center, peppermint improves the flow of bile. Releasing stored bile is part of your gallbladder's function.
