Harsh winter weather can irritate and redden your face, says "Cosmopolitan," particularly if you have fair skin that is already sensitive and prone to getting flushed. Acne can also give your skin a ruddy, uneven look, and while you can hide some of this with makeup, you can also use moisturizing skin-care products that will calm your skin and get rid of irritation. Fight off facial redness while you sleep by cleaning and hydrating your skin before bed. Use products with gentle ingredients, and you should wake up with soothed, more even-toned skin.

Step 1

Cleanse and calm your skin at night with a gentle face wash that will not strip it of moisture or exacerbate irritation, says "Cosmopolitan." Look for products that promise to moisturize and be safe for people with sensitive skin. Gently rub the cleanser onto your face with wet fingers, rinse it away with lukewarm water and dab your face and hands dry with a soft towel.

Step 2

Apply a healing mask with ingredients like jasmine and lily, says "Allure." The magazine notes that this kind of product will calm your skin and reduce redness. Smooth a generous amount of the mask over your entire face. Let it dry, and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Pat dry.

Step 3

Soak a cotton ball in toner and swipe it over your skin to soothe and replenish it. "Allure" recommends looking for a product designed especially for people with skin that is easily stressed out, and then keeping the product in the fridge for additional calming benefits. Let the toner dry on your face before you move on to the next step.

Step 4

Smooth a calming moisturizer or cream all over your face. "Cosmopolitan" suggests choosing a product that contains chamomile or another type of botanical designed to calm your skin and lessen irritation. If your skin feels excessively dry, look for a product formulated with shea butter, which "Allure" notes will both lessen redness and give your skin a hefty dose of hydration. Gently smooth the moisturizer you choose all over your face before going to bed.

Tips and Warnings

  • Talk to your doctor if your facial redness does not subside after a week of home treatment. You may have a more serious condition, or require prescription-strength products. Apply sunscreen every morning since sun damage can make your face red and irritated. Choose an oil-free product that promises to be safe to use on sensitive skin.
