Senior citizens can stay active and fit well into their "Golden Years" while partaking in community events and activities in LaGrange, Ohio. The rural village is located in northern Ohio, approximately 35 miles southwest of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The nearly 100 acres of green space at Lorain County Metro Park features handicapped-accessible trails and paved pathways for easy walking. An indoor recreation center offers low-impact tennis and basketball leagues.

Literary Activities

Kick back with a good book or opt to join in a literary workshop. The LaGrange Branch of the Elyria Public Library offers book discussion groups, crafting classes and cultural events throughout the year. Library event and workshops are often complimentary or require a nominal fee.

Community Parks

Stretch your muscles on three miles of multigenerational exercise trails at Lorain County Metro Park. Three shelters houses and numerous park benches dot the landscape along the trail, offering a comfortable place to take a break in the shade. Veteran's Park features a paved walking path, picnic pavilion and tennis courts. LaGrange Community Park features multiple sports courts, handicapped-accessible and paved walking areas and a covered picnic pavilion.

Senior Center

The Elyria Senior Center, less than 10 miles from downtown LaGrange offers year-round programs, healthy living workshops, exercise classes and senior citizen social events, offer regional residents age 60 and older the chance to mingle and partake in muscle-strengthening activities. An indoor swimming pool and support groups for various health conditions are also among the highlights of the facility for active seniors.

Faith Based Programs

Faith-based programs for seniors are primary sources of social interaction in the small Ohio village. Weekly social programs, organized outings and educational classes occur at houses of worship in LaGrange and the adjacent large community of Elyria. Both interfaith groups and St. Mary's Ministry to the Elderly program offer monthly luncheons and social acitivities.

Outdoor Pursuits

Guided fishing and hunting excursions organized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources occur throughout the year, with special events planned for both youths and seniors. LaGrange senior citizens can cast a line and dine on some Ohio catfish after participating in the Northeast Ohio Angler's Tournament Series. The Beaver Creek Sporstman's Club also offers event geared to those age 60 and above in the LaGrange area. Participants must purchase an Ohio fishing or hunting license prior to registering for an event. Special "one-day" discounted licenses are available to anglers or hunters who reserve a space in an organized age-specific excursion.
