How to Exfoliate Legs for Shaving

When the cold winter days have finished nipping at your toes and it’s finally time to sport your favorite shorts and bathing suit -- it’s also the moment to coax your razor out of hibernation. But before you lather up to shave your legs, give them an exfoliating scrub down. Exfoliation sloughs off the dry, flaky skin that can prevent a close shave and it brings the hairs to the surface so that they’re easier to remove. A scrub and a shave and you'll be home free, trotting out your sleek, soft-skinned gams in no time.

Step 1

Choose the method you want to use for exfoliation. Pick an abrasive body scrub with ingredients such as salt, sugar and oatmeal, or you can choose to use regular soap with a loofa or an exfoliating glove.

Step 2

Get into a warm bath or shower and thoroughly wet your legs with water.

Step 3

Scrub your legs in an up-and-down motion with your chosen method of exfoliation. Apply moderate pressure when scrubbing so that you lift the dead skin -- but avoid being too harsh, which can cause irritation.

Step 4

Rinse your legs well to remove any soap residue and then shave your legs with your chosen method of shaving while your legs are still wet.
