1. Show Those Muscles Off
Reduce your overall body fat to give more definition to your muscles. The best way to do this is to focus on strength training followed by a cardio workout and by watching your calorie intake. In order to lose weight, you have to take in fewer calories than you burn. Keep track of the foods you eat and cut out the extras. Be sure to fuel up before your workouts and eat within half an hour after your workout to maintain your lean body mass. Keep yourself hydrated at all times and rest up between workouts. As you lose body fat, you'll notice more lower body definition over time.
2. Balance Your Shape
It's common for your quads (the front of your thighs) to build up faster than your hamstrings (the back of your thighs.) This can give the appearance of having large thighs, which women seem to want to avoid for the most part. In order to give balance to your muscle, focus some of your workouts on your hamstrings. Focus the squeeze on your hamstrings when you're cycling, doing lunges and squats. Keep your leg exercises even for the best overall shape and definition.
3. Strengthen Things Up
Lift weights to build up those muscles and give your lower body definition. Exercises like the leg press work several different muscle groups in your leg. More specific areas can be targeted using machines like the hamstring curl to work the back of your legs and the leg extension to work your quads. Don't forget to work your inner and outer thighs. Find the abductor/adductor machine at your gym to get a great thigh workout. If you don't have access to a gym, get a resistance band to use at home. Squats and lunges will work your legs and glutes really well, without requiring any gym equipment.
4. Ride Your Way to Muscle Definition
Get into bike riding and watch your legs tone up quickly. Cycling is not only a tough cardio workout, but it also helps you build up muscle in your legs. Take a spin class to learn how to get a good cycle workout, or hop on your own bike and take it to the road. Try getting on a recumbent bike to give your hamstrings a better workout than riding an upright cycle, which tends to work your quads harder.
5. Keep Your Core Tight
The more you define your abs, the more toned you look overall. Keep your core tight when you perform any exercise and do extra ab work during each workout. If you have a fitness ball, lean back on it to do crunches and target all of those abdominal muscles at once. Ab definition typically shows up once your body fat is at a very low percentage.
