Fat cells develop during the third trimester of pregnancy. They may multiply up until puberty but rarely after that. There are no natural ways for a person under 20 to reduce the number of fat cells without medical intervention. When an individual gains fat, his fat cells get larger as opposed to multiplying. When an individual loses weight, his fat cells are reduced in size.

Step 1

Make a an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon. If you are younger than 20 and you want to reduce fat cells in your body, you require a plastic surgeon's services. The plastic surgeon will decide which methods should be used.

Step 2

Undergo a fat-loss ultrasound. During this procedure, subcutaneous pockets of fats cells are blasted with sound waves causing them to rupture and die. These cells are then cleaned using the body's own mechanisms. This treatment takes three or four sittings to be effective and is not available in all areas.

Step 3

Undergo liposuction. If ultrasound is unavailable or ineffective, liposuction is the next step in reducing fat cells. During this procedure, the subcutaneous fat cells are suctioned out using a hollow tube. It can be used almost anywhere on the body, but can only remove a limited amount of fat during each procedure.

Step 4

Undergo open surgery, which is the last step used to reduce fat cells in someone under 20. Tummy tucks, face lifts and thigh lifts are all open procedures that can remove fat cells. These procedures are considerably more traumatic and have a longer recovery time than the previous steps.
