Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, is in the eastcentral part of the state, on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River. The city is home to the U.S. Naval Academy and St. John's College. Annapolis has one public golf course, but several others are within a 10-minute drive. According to a report published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, golf is beneficial to your health because "walking a typical 18-hole golf course will allow most golfers to accumulate more than 10,000 steps of physical activity." Health care practitioners state that walking at least 10,000 steps per day as part of a general physical activity plan can help reduce obesity risk.
Annapolis Course
The Annapolis Golf Club on Carrollton Road is home to a public course designed by Charles Banks; it opened in 1928. Like most Banks-designed courses, the Annapolis has horseshoe ridges. While this course has only nine holes, it is designed with separate tee boxes so that it can be played twice for a complete 18 holes. This course is semiprivate, meaning it offers memberships but is still open to the general public.

Five miles from the center of Annapolis is the Atlantic Golf Club at South River, in Edgewater. Brian T. Ault designed the course in 1996.
