1. Fix a Sagging Brow With a Forehead Lift
One of the earliest signs of aging happens on the forehead. Deep creases form, along with frown lines between the eyebrows. A forehead lift is a type of cosmetic surgery that minimizes these wrinkles, lines and creases. A forehead lift, or brow lift, repositions sagging brows and raises the eyebrows to where they used to be. Plastic surgeons sometimes perform a brow lift along with a facelift.
2. Understand Your Reasons for Wanting a Brow Lift
The decision to have cosmetic surgery is very personal. If you are unhappy with your present appearance and believe that a forehead lift will make you happier, then go for it. You should not consider a brow lift, or any cosmetic surgery for that matter, as a way to please someone else. Another consideration before having a forehead lift is your general well-being. Are you healthy? Do you have any current medical conditions? If so, be sure to discuss them with your plastic surgeon.
3. Forehead Lifts are Real Surgery
Unlike some cosmetic procedures that involve a few needles and injections, a brow lift is the real deal of surgeries. Incisions (albeit small incisions) are made at the temple near the crease of the upper eyelids. In a coronal brow lift, the incision goes from ear to ear. Incisions close with the help of sutures (stitches), surgical tape or permanent surgical screws. Recovery time is between 5 and 10 days. At that point, patients may have some swelling and bruising, but nothing that you can't hide with make-up. Like a facelift, it may take several months for a brow lift to heal completely.
4. Forehead Lifts Come With Certain Risks
Forehead lifts are not without their own set of risks. These include cosmetic mishaps, such as scarring, hair loss, raised hairline and facial asymmetry. Fixing these problems requires more surgery. More serious complications of a brow lift include bleeding, blood clots, nerve injury or paralysis. To help avoid these medical mistakes, make sure that the American Board of Medical Specialties certifies the plastic surgeon in charge.
5. Forehead Lifts Don't Come Cheap
The total cost of a forehead lift will vary on how complicated the procedure is and who you choose for a plastic surgeon. Fees included in a forehead lift include the surgeon's fees, hospital or surgical center's fees, anesthesia fee and medication. Because a brow lift is not medically necessary, insurance does not cover the procedure.
