Sodexho is a food service company that provides dining options to college campuses, corporations, government agencies, hospitals and other facilities across the nation. Dining options can range from a full salad bar, Mexican or Chinese dishes, hamburger grill or a pizza bar. One of the most popular choices on the pizza bar is the pepperoni pizza. Using a specific blend of ingredients, the pepperoni pizza contains a balance of fat, carbohydrates and protein.

Features

Sodexho pepperoni pizza starts with a traditional 14-inch pizza crust topped with vine-ripened tomato sauce. Slices of pepperoni and shredded mozzarella cheese are added to the top of the tomato sauce.

Size

The 14-inch pepperoni pizza is cut into eight slices with each slice representing one serving. One slice contains about 290 calories, including 100 calories from fat. Carbohydrates contribute the majority of the calories -- 46 percent -- followed by 37 percent from fat and 17 percent from protein. The calorie content supplies about 15 percent of the recommended daily intake of calories.

Effects

Carbohydrates are provided primarily from the crust and one slice contains about 33 g of total carbohydrates for about 11 percent of the recommended daily intake along with 2 g of dietary fiber and 3 g of sugars. One slice also contains 11 g of total fat, 30 mg of cholesterol and 5 g of saturated fat for 25 percent of the recommended daily intake. Even with a significant amount of fat, Sodexho’s pepperoni pizza contains 0 g of trans fat. One slice contains 14 g of protein for 30 percent of the recommended daily intake.

Benefits

Pepperoni pizza contains various vitamins and minerals in small amounts. Calcium and iron are the most significant minerals with one slice containing 17 percent and 12 percent of the recommended daily intake, respectively. Vitamin A is found at 7 percent and vitamin C is found at 2 percent.

Warning

One slice of Sodexho’s pepperoni pizza contains a significant amount of sodium with 700 mg per serving for 29 percent of the recommended daily intake. Along with a high amount of sodium, the pepperoni pizza contains potential food allergens including milk, wheat, soy beans and gluten.
