The ProForm 785 treadmill, manufactured in 2008, is part of the i Series line. This fold-away, in-home treadmill features speeds up to 10 mph and an elevation up to 10 percent. ProForm states in the 785 owner's manual that you may have to adjust the walking belt if it is off-center, or if it slips or slows when you are using the machine.
Function
Adjusting the belt may be necessary for several reasons. As you use the treadmill, the belt may become stretched and may slip slightly as you walk or run on it. In this case, you will need to tighten the belt. The opposite may occur where the belt is too tight causing it to slow as you use the machine. Loosening the belt will alleviate this problem. You may notice that the walking belt moves off-center over time. A simple adjustment will center the belt.
Tools
The only tool you will need to supply for this task is a measuring tape. The required hex key is provided with your treadmill.
Identification
If your walking belt feels like it is slipping or stopping as you use your ProForm 785 treadmill, you will need to perform a simple tension test to identify if the belt is too tight or too loose. Lift the walking belt in the middle on one side of the treadmill. You should be able to lift the belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform. Adjust as necessary to tighten or loosen the belt.
Instructions
All adjustments are made by turning the rear roller bolts located at the back end of the treadmill. If the belt needs tightening, use your hex key to turn both bolts clockwise, 1/4 turn. If the belt needs loosening, turn both bolts counterclockwise, 1/4 turn. If the belt shifts to the right, turn the left bolt counterclockwise, 1/2 turn. If the belt shifts to the left, turn the left bolt clockwise, 1/2 turn. After tightening or loosening the belt, retest the tension by measuring how far you can lift the belt off the platform. Adjust again as needed. After centering the belt, run the belt for a few minutes to check if it is centered. If not, adjust again.
Warning
ProForm highlights in the owner's manual that you should always remove the safety key and unplug the treadmill before performing any belt adjustment.
