According to "Elle," elastin helps your skin remain firm and supple, but your body stops producing it when you enter puberty. To make matters worse, elastin starts to degrade as you get older, and this can lead to sagging skin, wrinkles and an overall loss of facial firmness. However, the National Center for Biotechnology Information states that anti-aging products containing dill extract encourage your skin to make more elastin. Improve the look and feel of your skin by applying these and other complementary products daily, and you will increase your skin's stores of elastin.
Step 1
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser each morning. Choose a product that suits your skin type and its needs, but avoid harsh cleansers that can dry out your skin, as this can damage it and make fine lines look worse. Smooth the product you select over wet skin, massage it in and then splash it off with water.
Step 2
Dry your face and hands, and apply a serum that contains antioxidants. According to a "Cosmopolitan" article, this will both hydrate your skin and protect it from free radicals and other types of environmental damage that can cause collagen and elastin to break down. Place a small amount of serum on your fingertips and blend it gently onto your face and around your eyes. Let it soak in.
Step 3
Apply a skin cream that contains dill extract to encourage elastin production. "Elle" notes that several anti-aging skin creams contain this ingredient and suggests you select one that also promises to firm and restore your skin. Dot the cream onto your face and rub it in gently. Allow this to absorb.
Step 4
Put on sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day, and reapply more throughout the day if you are exposed to sunlight. This will enhance the effectiveness of your serum, as well as give you additional protection from environmental damage. Slather your face and body with sunscreen before you go outdoors.
Step 5
Wash your face again at the end of the day, reapply the serum, let it dry and then reapply the cream with dill extract. "Cosmopolitan" states that you can also use a moisturizing product that contains peptides instead, which will increase the production of both collagen and elastin, as well as firm up your skin. Massage the product you choose into your skin before going to sleep.
