BodyBalance is a group exercise program that mixes Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi. The class consists of a 55-minute workout that works the entire body with a blend of yoga positions, balance exercise, stretches and meditation with a focus on improving core strength. The BodyBalance workout was created by Les Mills, who also created the BodyPump class. BodyBalance gives the body a complete cardiovascular and muscular workout, but you should consider possible drawbacks before attempting a class.

Balance

The BodyBalance class uses a mix of Yoga and Pilates movements that require a strong core to execute. If you have weak abdominal or lower back muscles, the stabilizing exercises may be difficult to hold. Not having the ability to hold the balancing poses can deprive your muscles of the benefits of the exercise. This can result in an unproductive workout.

Difficulty

Performing Pilates, Tai Chi and Yoga in one workout can be challenging. If you lack the muscular strength and flexibility to hold your own body weight, you may have difficulty maintaining the appropriate poses. Flexibility can limit your range of motion and limit the effectiveness of the poses. Muscular strength is required to complete the exercises to keep your heart rate elevated and reap the cardiovascular benefits of the workout.

Pregnancy

Expectant mothers should take special care when taking a BodyBalance class. Some of the poses require being in positions that may require modifications to keep the baby safe. Consult your physician prior to starting BodyBalance as an expectant mother. Ask your doctor about possible risks.
