Erectile dysfunction, or ED, is a sensitive but common condition that many men over the age of 40 suffer from. There are a number of prescription pills you can take that may help relieve some of the condition's symptoms. Nearly all the major erectile dysfunction products on the market offer some type of free trial to see if their pill is the answer for you.
Viagra
Sildenafil, more commonly known by the brand name Viagra, is a prescription drug made by Pfizer and designed to treat erectile dysfunction. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Viagra increases the blood flow to the penis by treating pulmonary arterial hypertension, a cause for erectile dysfunction. The drug relaxes blood vessels in the lungs, which enables blood to easily flow to other areas of the body. Viagra is not a cure for erectile dysfunction, nor does it improve sexual desire; it is a temporary solution for erectile dysfunction that lasts anywhere between 30 minutes to 4 hours. Possible side effects can be serious, especially for men who have heart problems.
Levitra
Levitra, also known by its medicinal name vardenafil, is a phosphodiesterase, or PDE, inhibitor that treats erectile dysfunction. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, Levitra increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This can result in erections and help men perform sexual intercourse. Levitra is taken orally approximately an hour before sexual activity. The prescription drug is Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation's top male-enhancement product. Levitra does not cure erectile dysfunction, but serves as a temporary relief from the condition's symptoms. Check with your doctor if you are on other medications, as Levitra does not mix with a number of other drugs. The drug can have adverse affects if you have any kind of heart condition.
Cialis
Tadalafil, which is better known by its market name Cialis, is the number one male-enhancement pill created by Lilly USA, a subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company. Cialis treats erectile dysfunction symptoms by increasing blood flow to the penis when sexually aroused, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. While Cialis is not a cure for erectile dysfunction, one tablet a day, usually taken just before sexual activity, can help relieve the condition's symptoms. Lilly USA also makes a 36-hour Cialis that can take affect in as little as 30 minutes. The prescription drug should not be combined with a number of other drugs; check with your doctor if you are taking any other medications. A number of side effects can occur when taking Cialis, including headaches, diarrhea and loss of vision.
