The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet, a weight-loss method, is done by taking up to 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar roughly 15 minutes before each meal. Apple Cider vinegar can be purchased through many different venues, but some people prefer to make their own. Here are the steps to make your own apple cider vinegar at home.
Create Your Own Apple Cider Vinegar
Step 1
Place 500 ml of hard apple cider into the jar. Note that the cider must be fermented so that the alcohol content is 5 to 6 percent. While you can make your own hard apple cider using apple juice, purchasing ready-made cider will make creating apple cider vinegar simpler.
Step 2
Add 50 ml of the apple cider vinegar to the cider.
Step 3
Place two layers of cheesecloth over the top of the jar and set it in a dark, warm room.
Step 4
Wait four to eight weeks while the vinegar bacteria converts the alcohol in the hard cider into vinegar. You will see a gelatin-like white film atop the liquid during this process, known as mother of vinegar.
Step 5
Test to see if the vinegar is complete. This can be done using a titration kit, available at a local wine and beer making shop. Another time-tested method is to taste and smell the vinegar. Any flavor or odor of alcohol indicates that more time is needed before the vinegar is finished.
Step 6
Throw out the mother of vinegar film, or use it to start up another batch of vinegar. Pour the apple cider vinegar into the glass container for safe storage.
