Located near Dayton in the southwestern corner of Ohio, Middletown is one of the larger cities of the state. It is also a popular area for outdoor recreational activities including fishing. The city offers a variety of smaller lakes for quiet trips alone or large lakes for the whole family to enjoy some time together.
Lake Monroe
Lake Monroe offers great fishing at its deeper points and in the weed-filled sections. It's level averages approximately 536 feet at its deepest point. This lake has bluegill fish in the weeds, hybrid striped bass at the surface, largemouth bass in the deeper areas and in weeds and crappie that tend to hide in underwater structures. Lake Monroe also has many fishing tournaments throughout the year.
Triangle Lakes
The Triangle Lakes are a set of three man-made lakes. They are stocked twice weekly with big blue and shovel head fish. These lakes also offer campgrounds, bait house and a food and beverage house. Fires are also allowed for cooking in the campgrounds. Fishing tournaments are held every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday nights. This is a pay-lake and fees are hourly, depend on age and include fishing poles if needed.
Rainbow Lakes
Located next to the Wright-Patterson Airforce Base in Fairborn, the Rainbow Lakes are a family-friendly fishing spot. This has been a popular attraction for fishing enthusiasts for more than 50 years. The lakes are primarily stocked with catfish, carp, bass, crappie, bluegill, trout, perch, sunfish, warmouth and sturgeon. Off-season hours in the spring and fall are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The lakes are open 24 hours every day other than Monday and Tuesday during the summer months. Prices are hourly, depend on age and do not include polls.
Acton Lake
Acton Lake is located within the boundaries of Hueston Woods State Park in College Corner, Ohio. It is 625 acres and is stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, saugeye and bluegill. The fishing pier is located on the west side of the lake. This lake also allows boating. So, there is also an option to fish in the middle of the lake rather than be restricted to the shore. The lake also has a variety of other activities including golfing, hunting and camping.
Westfork Lake
Westfork Lake is located in Winton Woods Park, which is part of the Hamilton Country Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Fishing is allowed only from the rental boats that are provided on site. The lake levels average between 675 and 702 feet. The area also has campgrounds and offers a variety of outdoor activities including golf, Frisbee golf and Parky's farm, which is open to visitors.
