Fighting wrinkles around the eyes has long been a major concern of men and women around the world and can be attempted by both natural and synthetic methods. Wrinkle creams, natural herbs and ointments are used by individuals with varying degrees of success, depending on the age of the individual, the condition of her skin, the depth of wrinkles and her lifestyle. Dealing with wrinkles and finding effective eye wrinkle treatment takes some research and experimentation. While we can't prevent the aging process, we can slow it down, and with a little diligence, each individual can find the eye wrinkle treatment that works best for her.

Creams and Serums

Creams, ointments or serums, created with commercially synthetic formulas or compounds, that contain retinol, hydroxy acids, copper peptides or coenzyme Q10, tea extracts or kinetin offer the beneficial results for non-surgical treatment of eye wrinkles.

Retinol is an antioxidant vitamin A compound that fights free radicals, which are a molecule that breaks down skin cells, resulting in wrinkles and dry, damaged skin. Hydroxy acids are a natural exfoliant that help remove damaged or dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, allowing fresh new skin cells to appear, while kinetin helps the skin retain moisture, giving it a more plump appearance, thereby reducing the depth of wrinkles around the eyes. Tea extracts are also gifted with anti-oxidant properties, and copper peptides are a type of protein that encourages the growth of collagen, which gives skin its elasticity.

Skin Resurfacing

Chemical peels or skin resurfacing treatments literally peel off the uppermost layer of skin, encouraging the growth and appearance of new skin cells to replace it. Chemical peels and skin resurfacing treatments are performed by trained and certified skin care experts and some cosmetic surgical professionals.

Natural Remedies

Homemade remedies using natural ingredients, such as bags of green tea, brown sugar or honey are also effective eye wrinkle treatments that offer simple and inexpensive alternatives to surgery for reduction of signs of aging for many. For example, placing slices of fresh tomato or cucumber over the eyes can help reduce wrinkles. Antioxidants found in these vegetables help replenish skin cells, as do chilled green-tea bags. Antioxidants found in green tea not only fight free radicals in the skin around the eyes, but can also help relieve puffiness around and under the eyes, offering the eyes a fresh, youthful look. Drink plenty of water (at least 64 ounces a day) to keep the skin well hydrated and elastic looking in appearance.

Laser Surgery

A variety of minimally invasive eye surgery procedures available today offer long-term results in eye wrinkle treatments. For example, laser technologies enable plastic or cosmetic surgeons to reduce unsightly eye wrinkles using a process called N-Lite. This technique encourages collagen synthesis while reducing trauma to the skin. Additional laser technologies include Fraxel laser, Thermage and SilkTouch techniques. Traditional eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) addresses a variety of eyelid wrinkles caused by aging, droopy eyelids and puffy bags under the eyes and helps reduce or remove the appearance of eye wrinkles. Mini face lifts that pull and tighten the skin around the forehead and cheekbones also reduce eye wrinkles.

Injections

Botox and Restylane injection treatments offer "plumping" benefits to the skin, especially in the thin skin around the eyes, and reduce eye wrinkles for about six months.
