How to Create a Diet Menu

While many diets sound like a good idea in theory, they can only set you up for failure due to nearly impossible diet menus and meal plans. You may not be able to find all of the ingredients at your local supermarket, you may be sabotaged by your own family refusing to eat your diet meal creations or the meals may just take too long to prepare. Get ready for success by planning your diet menu ahead of time, and making sure that you have all of the ingredients on hand to create healthy and delicious meals.

Step 1

Choose a diet plan that worlds for you. Unless you're handy in the kitchen, stay away from those that have complicated menus and use ingredients you don't normally have on hand. Don't choose diets that have major restrictions or that will set you up for failure with impossible-to-meet expectations. Choose a diet plan that allows your family to eat the same food as you without complaining, so that everyone in the family can help you with your diet menu by making it easier for you to prepare meals.

Step 2

Make a list about the diet that you've chosen, what foods are okay and which are prohibited. Make sure that you have plenty of ingredients in the list of things that are allowed. A diet that asks you to eat only eat carrots will not have much of a menu attached to it.

Step 3

Create a spreadsheet or a chart that breaks up your day into breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. Creating a menu for even small meals like snacks means that you'll have less of a chance at straying to eat a chocolate bar because you didn't plan for a snack.

Step 4

Look over your list of allowed foods, and assemble them into thee different areas of the chart. If you're allowed eggs and vegetables, add those as an omelet to your breakfast menu. If you can have nuts and cheese, add a handful of nuts and a string cheese as a snack.

Step 5

Use an online service like SparkPeople.com or FreeOnlineDietPlans.com to tally up the calories of each of your diet menu items so that you get an accurate portrayal of the nutritional information of different homemade recipes. A recipe you believe to be healthy may be loaded with extra calories or fat.

Step 6

Go shopping to make sure that you have all of the necessary food on hand to follow your diet plan strictly. When you have all of the ingredients at your fingertips, carrying through your diet will be much easier.
