A heating pad is normally used to alleviate the pain caused by innumerable ailments. Some of the most common ones include sprains, body pains, tensed muscles and menstruation cramps. Small heating pads can also be applied to the face to relieve facial muscle tension and enhance blood circulation to the face for healthier-looking skin.
Step 1
Go to a clothing or fabric store and purchase a large pocket sleeve used for sewing on pants. Pocket fabrics save the hassle of sewing a pad together from scratch, because it is partially enclosed from the get-go.
Step 2
Purchase 1 cup of mung beans. These beans are the best type to use since they easily conform to body parts such as elbows and knees. You can find these at most Asian or Middle Eastern supermarkets.
Step 3
Put the mung beans into the pocket sleeve. Add as many beans as you want, depending on how loose or firm you want your heating pad to be. Then sew the pocket sleeve closed either by hand with needle and thread or with a sewing machine.
Step 4
Place your heating pad in the microwave for 1 minute. Check periodically after the end of each microwave session to see if the pad is hot enough. If not, turn the pad over and use 30-second heating increments each time until it is hot enough.
