Exercise Machines for Back Problems

Many people suffer from back problems for a variety of reasons. While some may be enduring serious injury that requires major medical intervention others can see vast improvement in their levels of pain through proper strengthening and stretching. Exercise machines are a great option for improving muscular strength because they can isolate the areas in need while also limiting the risk of causing further pain or injury.

Back Extension

The back extension machine targets the muscles of the lower back. Low back pain is a common area for pain for those suffering back problems. Strengthening the muscles of this area can help to prevent the onset of low back pain. It is important to perform this exercise properly and to progress in load slowly as to not overstress the muscles and create injury or pain.

Abdominal Crunch

The abdominal crunch machine works the muscles of the abdomen especially the rectus abdominus. The abs muscles work with the muscles of the back to create a muscular support column for the body. This helps to maintain proper posture, which is important for the prevention and treatment of back problems.

Seated Row

The seated row machine works the muscles of the upper back, particularly the muscles supporting the shoulder blades. Strengthening the muscles of this area of the back improve posture of the upper back and shoulders. Some people have over developed chest muscles which act to pull the shoulders forward and the body out of alignment. This can result in back problems. The seated row machine works to combat this issue.

Lat Pulldown

The lat pulldown machine works the latissimus dorsi muscles which are the large muscles on the upper sides of the back. The latissimus dorsi or lats as they are commonly referred to are largest muscles of the back and one of the largest muscles in the human body. Improving or maintaining the strength in these muscles can help back problems along with many other aspects of everyday life.

Stretching Machines

Various models of stretching machines are on the market. It is important to overall health as well as the prevention and treatment of back problems to maintain flexibility. Overly tight muscles especially in the legs, hips, and shoulders can pull the body out of proper alignment and result in back problems. Stretching especially after a workout can keep your muscles loose and joints healthy helping to improve back wellbeing.
