Warts are small benign growths that appear on the skin. They are usually painless, but some people feel self-conscious about them, particularly if they are in a visible area such as the face or hands. According to Health-911, oregano oil may be used for the removal of warts. However, there is currently no scientific research to support the effectiveness of oregano oil for wart removal. You should consult a doctor before using oregano oil.

Warts

Warts are small growths that appear on the skin. According to Medhelp, there are several different types of warts, including common warts, which most often appear on the fingers or hands; flat warts, usually found on the face, most commonly in children and teenagers; plantar warts, which occur on the soles of the feet; subungual warts, appearing beneath the fingernails; and genital warts, which appear on the genitals.

Oregano Oil History

According to The Herb Spiral, the name oregano comes form the Greek word meaning "joy of the mountain." The ancient Greeks believed that animals that grazed on the herb would have very tender meat. Oregano is now grown throughout the world and is used to flavor cooking and for a number of medicinal purposes as well as treating warts, including easing respiratory disorders and stomachache.

Significance

According to Oil of Oregano, oregano has a number of active ingredients, including: carvacrol, which is a potent antibiotic. The highest-quality oregano oil should contain between 62 percent and 85 percent carvacrol.

Function

According to Wild Oil of Oregano, carvacrol is the active ingredient that can help with the removal of warts. To use oregano oil for treating warts, you should first mix 1 tsp. of oregano oil with 8 tsp. of coconut or sweet almond oil and shake. By mixing oregano oil with a carrier oil in this way, you will reduce the possibility of the oregano oil burning your skin. Apply the mixture to the wart four to six times throughout the day. You should notice a reduction in size within a week.

Warning

Oregano oil is quite volatile and should not be applied directly to your skin. Do not use oregano oil to treat genital warts. You should consult a physician before using oregano oil on your warts.
