Facts on Candida Cleanse

1. Yeast Gone Wild

There are many forms of Candida yeast that live on the human body. To keep things balanced, your body creates beneficial bacteria which help to keep yeast levels in check. However, the use of antibiotics which kill both good and bad bacteria, as well as high consumption of yeast-rich or yeast-encouraging foods can cause what many health practitioners call yeast syndrome. Yeast syndrome, usually caused by Candida albicans, can cause thrush, vaginal yeast infections and skin infections. It can also affect mood, memory and concentration, cause sinus congestion, headaches and fatigue as well as increase cravings for sugar.

2. Probiotics to the Rescue

Probiotics are naturally occuring in yogurt which contains L. acidophilous or can be purchased in capsule form. You can help to prevent yeast syndrome by eating yogurt and taking probiotic supplements during and after antibiotic treatment. Additionally, yogurt can be used topically to help cure a yeast infection. Eating yogurt and taking probiotics before and during your candida cleanse will help to restore your body's natural, beneficial bacteria which in turn will help to eliminate yeast. Always follow the manufacturer's directions for dosage of probiotics supplements.

3. Cut the Sugar

As you begin your Candida cleanse, it is extremely important that you cut out items which feed yeast. Sugar and starchy carbohydrates which are converted into sugar in the body feed yeast, therefore should be limited as much as possible. Instead, concentrate on non-starchy vegetables, nuts and seeds, lean meats and fish. Foods such as potatoes, corn, parsnips and other starchy veggies are off limits for the length of the cleanse. Fruits should also be avoided for about 10 days.

4. Keep Yeasty Foods off Your Plate

You must avoid yeast at all costs during the length of your Candida cleanse. Yeast is found in some obvious locations such as bread and beer; however, it is also found in some unexpected foods as well. Foods such as tomato paste, mushrooms, cheese and any other fermented product should be avoided.

5. A Cleanse Doesn't Work Overnight

After about 10 days you can begin to add fruits back into your diet; however, you should continue the Candida cleanse diet for at least 4 weeks for best results. Even if your symptoms of thrush, skin infection or yeast infection clears, continue for the full 4-week period. If your symptoms last longer than 4 weeks, maintain the diet for at least 2 weeks after your symptoms are relieved. It is also important to remember that your symptoms may seem worse in the first week or so of the cleanse; however, regular exercise and drinking plenty of water help to speed the cleansing process.
