Flat abs are probably close to the top of most people's list when talking about diet and exercise goals. David Zinczenko, the editor-in-chief of "Men's Health" magazine, developed a diet program to address that specific issue. The Abs Diet is a six-week diet and exercise plan that claims to be able to help both men and women reach those desired flat-ab goals. AbsDiet.com says there's no suffering, starving or even counting calories.

12 Superfoods

The Abs Diet believes that one of the pathways to flat abs is through eating, according to "Women's Health" magazine, which is the sister magazine to "Men's Health." The creators of the diet say that being hungry is what leads to diet failure. So, on the Abs Diet you eat six mini meals per day so that you are constantly replenishing the vitamins, nutrients and energy. Meals on the Abs Diet center around what the creators call the 12 superfoods. Absdiet.com reports those foods as almonds, beans and legumes, green vegetables, dairy products, oatmeal, eggs, lean protein, peanut butter, olive oil, whole grain breads and cereals, protein powder and berries.

Drink Smoothies

It sounds like a treat but it is actually healthy and can help you lose weight, according to "Women's Health." Smoothies make a great quick replacement for a meal if you are in a hurry or on the go, or they are optimal for a snack. It is advised to make the smoothies yourself, rather than purchasing sugar-laden commercial varieties. Smoothies also make good use of the Abs Diet 12 superfoods; combine berries, yogurt and peanut butter in a blender and mix until creamy and smooth.

Drink Water

Water may not be as exciting as a frozen margarita but nixing alcohol may speed up your flat ab efforts. "Women's Health" reports that your body burns 36-percent less fat while it is metabolizing alcohol. Plus, even when you are slightly inebriated your inhibitions are lowered and you have a greater chance of segueing off your healthy eating plan. Water, on the hand, will keep you hydrated, which can help with your energy levels.

Cheat Meal

The creators of the Abs Diet believe that restriction is another route to failure, so they have build in one cheat meal per week on this program, according to "Women's Health." They say to eat whatever you like, just be sure to return to the plan at your next meal.

Meal Examples

Both the Abs Diet book and the online version come with a plethora of recipes and meal ideas. Breakfast ideas include combining eggs, feta cheese and spinach, and waffles, eggs and salsa. Eat tossed salads and chicken, feta and spinach rolled up in a whole-wheat tortilla for lunch. Try pork chops cooked in Dijon mustard and shrimp stir-fry for dinner. Apples with peanut butter and frozen yogurt round out snacks and dessert.
