When you wear soft contact lenses, you don't have to worry about them slipping off during exercise, getting fogged up during bad weather or changing the look of your face. This increased convenience only comes after you master the art of putting in and taking out your contact lenses. It takes a little bit of practice and patience, but once you get the hang of it, contact lens care will be second nature.

Step 1

Wash your hands thoroughly and let air dry. Do not use a towel or other cloth that contains lint to avoid transferring lint onto your contact lens.

Step 2

Add one to two drops of rewetting solution to each eye, recommends Bausch and Lomb. Rewetting drops help lubricate your eyes and makes contact lens removal easier.

Step 3

Use your middle finger to pull down your lower eyelid as you look upward.

Step 4

Use the index finger of the same hand to slide the contact lens toward your ear. At the same time, sweep your thumb toward your nose so that you're making a pinching motion.

Step 5

Grasp the contact lens gently as you bring your thumb and finger together and remove it from your eye. This may take a couple tries to execute if you've never done it before.

Step 6

Clean and store your contacts according to your specific brand's instructions and your eye doctor's recommendation.
