Low Calorie Weight Loss Diet

A low calorie weight loss diet can be a lot easier to follow than more complex eating plans that require you to monitor carbs, sugars and fat grams. On a low calorie diet, there is not a single particular food that you can't eat. Instead, you focus on counting calories to help reduce the number that you consume on a daily basis. Make sure you speak to your doctor before embarking on a low calorie diet in order to lose weight.

Step 1

Keep a diet journal. A diet journal can be used to record everything that you eat on any given day. Make sure you include drinks in your records as well.

Step 2

Write down the number of calories found in each food items. Nutritional labels found on most food items can provide you with this information. If you are unsure of the exact number of calories, you can use an online calorie counter for assistance. For example, on Calorie King (see Resources), you can type the name of the food item and receive the number of calories in each serving.

Step 3

Calculate the number of calories you have consumed for that day. You may want to do this in order to average out the number of calories you usually eat.

Step 4

Make changes to your diet in order to reduce your daily caloric intake. Once you know how many calories you normally eat, decide on the number of calories you should consume in order to lose weight. Some examples of daily calorie goals when trying to lose weight include 1200, 1500 and 1800.

Step 5

Eat smaller meals made of low calorie dishes throughout the day to keep from getting hungry. Some examples of low calorie foods include non-fat dairy, lean cuts of meat, fish, fruits, vegetables and whole grain breads and cereals. You should drink mostly water.
