Nutrisystem is an eating plan that recommends foods based on their glycemic index. The glycemic index is used to give ratings to carbohydrates and how they affect the blood's glucose levels. Nutrisystem foods have a low glycemic index, which means it will only make a small change in your body's insulin levels. Before you use Nutrisystem, however, you probably want to compare the plan with those of other diets.
Step 1
Browse diet reviews. Websites that review diets, including Nutrisystem, can give you an idea of how users compare it with other diets they have followed. An example of a diet review site is Top Diet Review (see "Resources").
Step 2
Look at the price. Nutrisystem can be an expensive diet to follow. Although the plan prices vary, the average cost is between $250 and $350 a month. The price includes 28 day's worth of meals and snacks. This may not be cost effective, and you may want to consider a cheaper diet to follow, such as South Beach or the Zone.
Step 3
Check out the types of foods available on the Nutrisystem diet. Some foods you will have are oatmeal, pancakes, tortilla soup, cheese tortellini, beef stew, split pea soup and chocolate chip cookies. This plan allows you to only eat its line of low fat and low sugar processed foods. A diet like Weight Watchers allows you to eat either its line of foods or your own prepared meals.
Step 4
Consider whether the diet is flexible when compared with other eating plans. The good thing about Nutrisystem is you have the ability to customize your menu and pick out each of your daily meals online. Diets like the Biggest Loser will not give you that option and instead send you whatever meals are in rotation for that week.
Step 5
Review the support options. Some people need a lot of support in order to lose weight, and Nutrisystem has only a few online weight loss tools to help you along the way. If you need more one-on-one support, you may want to use a diet like Jenny Craig. This plan includes counseling sessions with a weight loss specialist.
