Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medicinal practice. According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicines, balancing your body, mind and spirit remains the central goal of Ayurveda practices. Ayurvedic medicine recommends a vegetarian diet rich in plants, herbs, oils and spices. The Ayurvedic diet may prevent bodily illnesses and promote wellness. According to a National Health Interview Survey, more than 200,000 adults in the United States actively participated in a form of Ayurveda in 2007.
Step 1
Place a large frying pan or wok onto one of the burners of your stove. Pour a small amount of vegetable oil or clarified butter into the pan. Rotate the knob of your stove to warm the corresponding burner to a medium to high heat. Give the vegetable oil or clarified butter adequate time to heat.
Step 2
Place the palm of your hand a few inches above the pan to test the heat. Select vegetables based on the Ayurveda vegetarian diet including carrots, asparagus, okra, cucumber, onions, beets and hot peppers. Slice your chosen vegetables thinly using a sharp kitchen knife and a cutting board. Place your vegetables into the warmed pan to create an Ayurveda stir-fry.
Step 3
Add in finely chopped garlic to increase the flavor of your vegetarian dish. Choose from the recommended Ayurvedic cooking spices and herbs including turmeric, cumin, coriander, oregano, cayenne and black pepper. Sprinkle your favored herbs and spices onto your simmering vegetable medley. Grip the handle of your frying pan or wok. Lift the handle quickly to mix the stir-fry.
Step 4
Rotate the corresponding burner knob to a low heat as the vegetables begin to soften. Place a lid onto the vegetarian stir-fry to lock in the heat. Fill a small pot with water. Lower the pot onto an unoccupied stove burner. Utilize your oven controls to turn the burner to a high heat. Pour 1/2 cup of long-grained basmati rice into the boiling water.
Step 5
Stir the rice using a spoon until it begins to soften. Pour the rice into a strainer to remove the boiling water. Place the rice onto a large plate. Remove the lid from your Ayurveda vegetarian stir-fry. Utilize the spoon to scoop the sauteed vegetables onto the bed of rice. Taste the vegetables to determine if they have been properly seasoned. Add recommended herbs and spices if necessary.
