MayoClinic.com states that earwax functions as a natural defense by guarding the sensitive components of your ear, including the eardrum. Accumulating an excessive amount of earwax often results from sinus problems as well as minor ailments such as the common cold. Severe cases of wax build-up require the expertise of a medical doctor. A prominent remedy for removing earwax yourself utilizes a candle made from beeswax. Burning an ear candle enables you to safely remove wax from your ear canal without the use of a cotton swab.
Step 1
Place your beeswax ear candle and other supplies onto a flat surface. Locate the wider end of the candle, referred to as the base. Place the base of the ear candle into the center of the paper plate. Trace around the circular base of the candle using the head of a pencil.
Step 2
Insert the tip of the scissors into the middle of the traced circle. Cut out the traced circle from the center of the paper plate. Place the base of the candle into the center of the paper plate to create an ash-catching device for the beeswax ear candle. Locate a level surface such as a couch or bed.
Step 3
Place a pillow at the head of the bed or couch. Identify the string-like wick of the beeswax ear candle, located at the opposite end of the base. Strike a match against the rough edge of the match box or pack. Ignite the wick of your ear candle using the flame of the match.
Step 4
Lay down in a horizontal position with your head resting against the pillow. Insert the base of the ear candle into the outer canal of your ear. Listen for a hissing or crackling sound to determine the ear candle has been properly positioned. Keep the ear candle as vertical as possible throughout the wax removal process.
Step 5
Remove the ear candle from your ear canal periodically. Locate a red-colored line surrounding the bottom of the beeswax ear candle. Avoid burning the candle past the red indicator line. Extinguish the flame of the ear candle as it nears the red line by placing it into a glass of water. Utilize a new beeswax candle for your remaining ear to complete the wax removal process.
