The Anti-Yeast cleansing diet is geared toward ridding an individual of a yeast over growth. This diet achieves its goals by removing all the foods in your diet that the yeast, known as candida, can sustain itself on. This is an effective approach because candida sustains itself on the nutrients its host ingests.

Candida

Candida yeasts are members of the fungi kingdom. An infection with candida is known as thrush or candidiasis. There are more than 45 species of yeast in the Candida genus. Most of these species can cause yeast infections. These yeasts require a damp and poorly ventilated area to grow on or in your body. The most common species of candida is candida albicans, which is the cause of most yeast infections.

Do Not Eat

Sugar is the primary source of nutrition for candida. If you are suffering from thrush, sugar should be removed from your diet for at least three months. You should go without alcohol, products that contain yeast and products that contain mold. Remove caffeine and dairy products from your diet for the two months at the start of the anti-yeast cleansing diet. All of these ingredients can sustain candida with nutrition. The only dairy product that is allowed is sugarless fat-free yogurt.

Eat

The consumption of certain foods should be increased to make up for all the nutrients lost to your body from the foods removed. Lean cuts of meat, poultry, small amounts of nuts, small amounts of beans, non-hydrogenated oils, fish and shellfish are allowed, while you are on an anti-yeast cleansing diet. Fat-free sugarless yogurt is an asset in fighting candidiasis because it contains probiotic bacteria. These bacteria actually kill yeast cells.

Results

An anti yeast cleansing diet may take a few months to eradicate a candida over growth. The diet also raises the efficiency of anti-yeast medications. In the beginning of the diet and treatment it is not uncommon to see a flare up of candida symptoms such as fatigue, itchiness and build up a white creamy substance in the infected area. This flare up is due to the fact that when yeast cells die they release toxic substances.

Complications

If a candida infection is left untreated or treated improperly it can cause health problems. The infection can develop into a chronic problem or can cause vaginitis, oral thrush and disturb the pH balance of the digestive tract causing digestive problems. In individuals with suppressed immune systems such as HIV sufferers it is not uncommon for candida to cause lethal complications.
