Atlanta, the capitol of Georgia, is made up of several diverse neighborhoods that offer a wide variety of activities. Atlanta is the largest city in Georgia and contains the world headquarters of such well-known large corporations as Coca-Cola, AT&T, the Cable News Network, Delta Air Lines, Georgia-Pacific and Turner Broadcasting. Population growth has led to the opening and expansion of businesses to accommodate Atlanta's residents and visitors, and they offer many activities on Friday nights.
Restaurants
Atlanta is full of restaurants that offer a variety of dining experiences. The Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar and View offers a panoramic view of the Atlanta skyline in a revolving three-level dining complex with light jazz music. The menu features seafood, salad and dishes including tofu mignon, roasted chicken and lamb cassoulet. Pizza Fusion offers food made with whole and organic ingredients and includes gluten-free pizza, brownies and beer on the menu. Dante's Down the Hatch features fondue style dinners with live entertainment.
Sports
Atlanta hosts a number of professional sports teams that allow visitors to watch live hockey, baseball, football and basketball games and car races. Atlanta has a game of some kind nearly every Friday night. The Atlanta Falcons play their games at the Georgia Dome, an indoor stadium also used for college football and other events, and tours of the venue are available. Basketball's Atlanta Hawks and hockey's Atlanta Thrashers share Phillips Stadium, which offers an interactive area for fans called the Thrashers Nest. Atlanta Motor Speedway offers Friday-night drag racing on the pit road.
Music
Atlanta's diversity extends to music. Many kinds of music are featured on Friday nights in Atlanta, including jazz, blues, rock, country, dance and contemporary music. Smith's Olde Bar features live music on Friday nights and has hosted globallly known musicians, including David Bowie, Train, Pete Yorn, Drivin' N' Cryin', King's X, Edwin McCain, Fishbone and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The Variety Playhouse has national acts that offer music including roots rock, indie, jazz, folk and world music. Blind Willie's and the Northside Tavern provide venues for blues music. Several jazz venues are available, including Churchill Grounds, Beluga Martini Bar and Sambuca Jazz Cafe, and the High Museum of Art has jazz the third Friday of every month.
Dance Clubs
Spend Friday nights in Atlanta dancing at one of the many night clubs or karaoke bars that feature the type of music you enjoy. CosmoLava has three dance floors with DJs offering Top 40, '80s, Funk and Hip-Hop music. Johnny's Hideaway has offered Swing and Big Band music for dancing for 20 years, and adds disco music later at night. MJQ Concourse has punk and industrial rock, rhythm and blues and house music to accommodate a wide mix of people. Dance to '70s and '80s music at Hole in the Wall, enjoy Latin dancing at the Havana Club or line dance to live country bands at Cowboys.
Comedy Clubs
There's nothing like laughter to promote health and well being, and Atlanta offers plenty of laughs on Friday nights at area comedy clubs. The Punchline provides entertainment on Friday nights from 8 to 10 p.m. and has hosted nationally known comedians, including Eddie Murphy, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle and Atlanta's own Jeff Foxworthy. Showcase Comedy Lounge has shows on Friday nights at 8 p.m. and Dad's Garage Theatre Company hosts comedy improvisation shows. Comedy Gold in Buckham offers entertainment from stand-up comedians from all over the country on Friday nights, including comics from Comedy Central, Ferguson, Letterman, Leno and Conan.
