The Ab Lounge 2 Abdominal Exerciser is an exercise chair produced by Fitness Quest Inc., the same company that markets Gazelle Gliders and BioForce home gyms. Like Fitness Quest's other products, the Ab Lounge 2 was primarily sold through TV infomercials when it was first released. As of October 2010, it is only available through third-party retailers.
Function
The Ab Lounge 2 is operated by you sitting in it like a lounge chair with your hands strapped above your head and your legs extended out in front of you. You then bring your hands and feet toward each other to execute crunches while sitting. The design of the machine is intended to help you hold the correct form throughout the abdominal exercise, thus enhancing its affect on your body.
Features
A steel frame supports the padded seat and backrest of the Ab Lounge 2. The chair can hold up to 250 lbs., and weighs 32 lbs. when fully assembled. In addition to the Ab Lounge chair, you also receive a workout video when you purchase the machine. This video demonstrates the exercises included in the owner's manual. The Ab Lounge 2 comes with a 90-day warranty that covers all parts of the equipment.
Size and Cost
The Ab Lounge 2 Abdominal Exerciser is the smallest of the machines in the Ab Lounge line. It measures 39 ½ inches long, 30 inches wide and 44 ½ inches tall when fully assembled. The Ab Lounge XL systems are larger in every dimension when compared to the Ab Lounge 2, measuring 54 inches long, 31 ¾ inches wide and 45 ½ inches tall. As of October 2010, the Ab Lounge 2 costs about $90.
Exercise Types
Exercises on the Ab Lounge 2 revolve around the basic jackknife movement that is created when you sit in the chair with your limbs extended and perform a crunch. Lying on your side and using the same movement targets your oblique abdominals. To increase the intensity of the workout further, Fitness Quest advises to raise your legs or arms at the peak of a repetition. A total of eight exercises are outlined in the Ab Lounge 2 exercise manual.
Reviews
The Fitness Events and Diet Spotlight websites give the Ab Lounge 2 generally positive reviews. The equipment is praised for its ease of assembly, low price, and effective targeting of both your lower and upper abdominal muscles. Both reviews note, however, that the machine is designed only for the very specific purpose of building your abdominals, and would need to be used in conjunction with a complimenting exercise program for a total body workout.
