Overview

Apple cider vinegar has long been touted as an effective weight loss aid. Well-known as a folk remedy for a variety of conditions, its use as a weight loss tool goes back to the early 19th century. For weight loss purposes, apple cider vinegar can be taken directly or mixed with liquids.

Step 1

Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar into a cup of water or herbal tea. Teas that are supposed to speed up metabolism and help with weight loss, such as green tea, are a good choice. If you don't mind the taste, you can take the vinegar directly.

Step 2

Drink this mixture 30 to 40 minutes before each large meal, up to three times a day. Or put it in a jug and sip throughout the day as you get thirsty.

Step 3

Add honey or cinnamon to the tea if you're having trouble dealing with the taste of the vinegar. You can also try using apple cider vinegar supplements, sold in tablet supplement at health food stores and pharmacies. If you choose this option, however, you need to make sure that apple cider vinegar is the first ingredient in the list.

Step 4

Reduce portion sizes for all your meals. Because apple cider vinegar is purported to reduce appetite and cravings, you won't feel as hungry anyway. Concentrate on foods that are low in calories, such as fruits and vegetables, along with lean protein such as chicken or fish.
