As you get older, you may find that the tip of your nose appears to be drooping. This occurs when the cartilage in the lower part of the nose becomes weaker and separates. As the nose droops it also often gives the impression that a hump has grown in the middle of the nose. A plastic surgeon will perform rhinoplasty to lift the nose tip, or there are several less invasive measures you can take to improve the appearance of a drooping nose.

Nose Shortener

The nose shortener is an exercise formulated by "Facercise" creator Carole Maggio. This exercise can be performed either sitting or standing. Using your index finger, press your nose tip downward towards your top lip. Then move the tip upward by either bringing your upper lip down over your teeth or by flexing your nostrils, all the while creating resistance with your finger. Release the tip and repeat for a total of 35 times. According to Maggio this exercise narrows and shortens the tip of the nose by exercising the depressor septi muscle. This is the muscle that begins at the upper lip and extends upward into the septum of the nose; it is used to constrict the nostrils. The nose shortener exercise should be performed once or twice per day.

Nose Splints

Nose splints are small flexible props that can be inserted into the nose to improve the appearance of a wide, crooked or drooping nose. The splints are placed inside the nostrils and can be positioned according to how the wearer would like their nose profile to appear. The splints are easy to insert but should be removed when you are lying down, swimming, exercising or sleeping.

Makeup

Makeup can be useful to disguise a drooping nose. Pick a foundation or powder that is one or two tones darker than your natural skin color and darken the end of the nose tip. Blend in well; this will make the nose appear shorter. Additionally, by emphasizing your eyes, lips and cheekbones with makeup you can draw attention away from a drooping nose.
