If you are looking for a colon cleansing detox product that is not based on herbs, you have several options, which include clay- and chemical-based powders that will have a laxative effect on your large intestine, assisting the elimination of fecal matter. Because nonherbal colon cleansing products are more likely to eliminate beneficial bacteria from your gut during the cleansing process, you may want to consider supplementing your diet with probiotics, which according to the National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine, are beneficial live microorganisms that you need to have proper digestive function. You can take probiotics as a supplement or through your diet, by eating fermented foods and yogurt.

Colosan

Colosan is a colon cleanser based on magnesium oxide that is meant to remove parasites, toxemia, yeast and mucous buildup in your large intestine. It can be irritating to your gastrointestinal tract and may cause mild diarrhea. According to the online Colon Health Magazine, Colosan can promote weight loss as a side effect but it may also cleanse your intestine and make it more able to absorb nutrients, which is needed for weight gain after illness. Colosan is activated by citrus juice from limes or lemons, which prompt your stomach to secrete acids that activate the magnesium oxides to release oxygen in your colon. You can take 1 tsp. of Colosan with a glass of water on an empty stomach up to three times per day as an initial dosage immediately followed by 2 tbsp. of lemon juice. If you don't like lemon juice you can substitute it with apple cider vinegar. Colosan can be taken twice a week after that as a maintenance measure. The mixture has a chalky taste and lemon juice can be added to the water to mask the taste.

Homozon

Homozon works in a similar way to Colosan, by using oxygen to cleanse your colon. According to the website Nutrilife, homozon was created by Dr. Eugene Blass and can assist with parasite elimination. Its two major ingredients are magnesium peroxide and magnesium oxide. Homozon comes in a white powder that is taken dissolved in water. You can take several teaspoons two times per day; as with Colosan you need to follow it with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.

Bentonite clay is taken internally as a colon cleansing agent. As it moistens in your digestive tract, it binds with heavy metals and metabolic toxins present in your gut and helps you eliminate them through your stool, according to the book "The Clay Cure," by Ran Knishinsky. You can take up to 1 oz. of bentonite clay mixed in 8 oz. of water twice per day for up to two weeks. As a maintenance dosage, take 1/2 oz. with 4 oz. of water once per day.
