Hair loss occurs in men of all races. Black men have hair loss for the same reason as any other race. Numerous hair growth products are on the market today, but black men should stick with the only two that have gained approval by the Food and Dug Administration: minoxidil and finasteride. Also, the use of Nizoral shampoo every three days has showed benefits.

Step 1

See your doctor. A visit to the doctor is crucial when deciding to combat hair loss. Not only can your doctor help pinpoint the cause of your hair loss, a physician can write a prescription for finasteride, which will come in the form of Propecia tablets.

Step 2

Take Propecia as prescribed. Propecia, which is a 1mg finasteride tablet, is generally taken once per day.

Step 3

Apply minoxidil to scalp twice per day. Minoxidil should be applied after styling your hair in the morning and again at night, preferably several hours before bedtime.

Step 4

Shampoo with Nizoral once every three days. Nizoral is available as a prescription item in a 2 percent ketokonazole solution or over the counter as a 1 percent solution. A March 2001 report by McNeil Consumer Healthcare scientists showed that both solutions are effective for treating hair loss. McNeil is the manufacturer of Nizoral.
