Black cherry juice can provide many health benefits. The black cherry is loaded with phytochemicals and antioxidants. In fact, there are more than 17 different antioxidant species present in dark cherries including anthocyanins and melatonin, according to Cherry Juice Power.

Fights Inflammation

The anthocyanins show ability to fight inflammation. This set of molecules is responsible for the color of cherries. Much inflammation that occurs in the body comes from the result of free radical action in different part of the body. The great amount of antioxidant species that are contained in black cherry juice fight free radicals that occur. Cherry Juice Power says as neutralization occurs, they no longer are able to cause the inflammation.

Gout Relief

Gout is a very painful affliction that is the result of a build-up of uric acid crystals in the joints, primarily of the foot. Black cherry juice shows the ability to reduce the urate in the blood stream. A study performed by University of California at Davis shows that -- in a group of 15 women fed black cherries, cherry juice or dried cherries each day -- they had a 15 percent decrease in blood uric level. And gout pain decreased significantly for this test group.

Protection from Cancer and Heart Disease

Many fruits and vegetables show the ability to help fight against cancer because of their high amount of antioxidants. Black cherry juice provides one of the highest amounts of antioxidants available. Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity, ORAC, measure the amount of antioxidants present in any given fruit or vegetable. Most types of cherries have the same compounds in them, although in different quantities. Tart cherries hold the first and second position on the ORAC chart. Whether they are frozen, canned, dried or concentrated, tart cherries range from 1,700 to 12,000 on the ORAC scale. Black cherries possess a score of 670. Black cherry juice contains three powerful antioxidants, isoquercitrin, quercitin and anthocyanins, which fight cancers within the body and are particularly effective for cancers of the colon. The overall antioxidant character of black cherry juice helps in the fight against heart disease by attacking free radicals that help generate plaque in the blood vessels. According to Enormous Articles, melatonin, also a component of black cherry juice, fights against cardiovascular and circulatory diseases.
