Ugly spider veins are often prevalent on the legs, but they can also affect the face and neck as well. Those with fair skin might notice that they are more prone to veins on the face, as well as those who have a family history of varicose veins. While the American Academy of Dermatology recommends laser therapy to get rid of or diminish the appearance of veins, you can complete some home therapy to make them look less pronounced for a smoother, clearer complexion.
Massage
Massaging the veins on your face can help them become less constrictive so that their appearance is smoother. To massage correctly, use your clean finger tips or a facial massager, and use circular motions, concentrating on the areas where the veins are the most pronounced. A good facial massage should last 20 to 30 minutes to be effective and should be performed several times a week.
Cold Compress
A cold compress applied the face can help contract the blood vessels that cause your facial veins, making them looks smaller. A cold compress also helps with large pores, which can make spider veins on the face look worse. Use a bag of frozen peas, a frozen piece of meet, or a gel compress applied to the affected areas for 30 minutes or until veins seem to be diminished.
Astringent
The stagnant blood in the veins that cause their red and inflamed appearance can get a boost to move from a natural astringent, like witch hazel. Applying witch hazel to the veins will reduce redness to make the veins less noticeable. Find witch hazel at a local whole foods store, and then dip a cotton ball in the witch hazel and apply to the affected area. Cool witch hazel may work even better as an astringent. Store-bought astringents can also be effective.
Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba helps to improve circulation, making it helpful to treat the bad circulation that leads to facial spider veins. A study published in the "Planta Medica Journal" in November 2004 found that ginkgo biloba improved blood flow in subjects, making it ideal for those who suffer from bad circulation leading to spider veins on the face and neck. It reported that subjects receiving 240 mg per day did the best, but you should talk to a health care provider before introducing 240 mg as a form of therapy.
Makeup
If you can't find a way to get rid of the veins on your face, you can successfully use makeup to cover them so that they aren't as apparent. A simple mineral foundation will cover the veins without looking like you have makeup on at all, and it can give you more confidence so you spend less time worrying about people staring at the veins on your face.
