Overview

Nature's Plus Spiru-Tein, which gets its name from two of its ingredients, protein and spirulina, is a high protein energy drink available in several flavors. Spiru-Tein provides 14g of protein per 8 oz serving along with 100% of the daily recommended values for vitamins. Individuals drink Spiru-Tein as a meal replacement or to increase protein not obtained from daily meals. As with any protein supplement or meal replacement, consult a physician before taking either to discuss any possible side effects or contraindications with current medications.

Protein

The body requires protein for energy and growth and maintaining muscles. Protein contains essential amino acids necessary for rebuilding and repairing body tissue. Nature’s Plus uses a proprietary plant-based protein blend of rice, pea and soy proteins made from non-genetically modified plants in all of their Spiru-Tein products.

Rice protein is a sweet-tasting protein source. As a plant-based protein source, rice protein contains no gluten, which makes it easy for individuals experiencing digestive discomfort with high amounts of protein. Pea protein contains high levels of arginine, an amino acid which reduces blood pressure. Pea protein is low in calories, cholesterol and high in essential amino acids. In its protein blend, Spiru-Tein includes soy, which is isolated and fermented. Soy comes from the soybean plant. Soy is naturally low in fat and cholesterol. Fermenting soy improves digestibility and absorption and increases mineral content of magnesium and zinc.

Spirulina

Spirulina is a green-blue algae known for its health benefits. According to Spirulina Earthwise, spirulina contains high antioxidant properties and fights free radicals. Spirulina is also a healthy plant-based protein, which complements the proprietary blend used in Spiru-Tein. Spirulina contains essential fatty acids necessary for energy and muscle function and is low in cholesterol and fat.

Flavoring and Sweeteners

Spiru-Tein contains natural flavorings. Some of the product flavors include Dutch cocoa, blueberry extract and vanilla. In addition to flavors added to the protein base, Spriru-Tein is sweetened with apple pectin, bee pollen and fructose.

Vitamins

Spiru-Tein, which has vitamins and minerals added to the protein base, provides 100% of the daily requirements of necessary vitamin intake. All of the vitamins found in a multi-vitamin are found in Spiru-Tein. Vitamins A, C and E act as antioxidants. All of the vitamins B along with vitamin K support healthy blood and provide energy.
