The city of Fargo is located on the Red River, close to the border with Minnesota in eastern North Dakota, and is the county seat of Cass County. The city flourished after the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad, and is still a major rail terminus, and has further flourished since the arrival of interstates 94 and 29, which meet in the city. Fargo is a convenient stopping place for RVers traveling along these two routes.
RV Campgrounds
The Lindenwood Campground is run by the city of Fargo, and is located on Fifth Street South. You'll find 46 spaces large enough for big rigs but no pull-throughs. There are spaces on the waterfront and shade trees, but no sewer hook-ups, although you will find 50-amp power and a dump station. Restrooms and showers are reported as being clean in RV Park Reviews, which gives the camp good reviews.
The Red River Valley Fair Association's RV campground has 12 asphalt pads and 68 gravel pads, 53 of which have full hookups. This campground has some poor reviews, however. The Fargo/Moorehead KOA, which has 40 spaces for RVs, also has poor reviews. A little to the west of the city along I-94 you'll find the Governors' Inn & Conference Center. Its RV park has 45 gravel sites, 20 of which are pull-throughs, all with full hookups and 30- and 50-amp power.
Amenities
The Fair Association's campground and the KOA offer little in the way of amenities and activities. On the other hand, the Lindenwood campground has picnic tables, fire rings, a children's playground and an information center. Next door to the center you can hire a wide variety of trail bikes, including fun cycles, banana peel, Siretta Surrey bikes, tandem bikes and handicap bikes to ride the campground's bike trails. At the Governors' Inn & Conference Center RV Park, you get to use all of the center's facilities, including the restaurant and cocktail lounge, public phone and a coin laundry. The inn also has an indoor water park, but expect to pay a little extra to use the pool or spa.
Local Attractions
Golfing enthusiasts will find three 18-hole courses and two nine-hole courses in Fargo. One of them, Edgewood Golf Course, rents out skis in winter for people who want to try their hand at cross country skiing. The city also has a skate park located near to the river. While you're here plan a trip to the Red River Zoo or to the Fargo Air Museum, or hire a canoe on the river for a few hours.
Health and Fitness
Fargo has a number of fitness centers for you to try out. You'll find a Courts Plus Fitness Center, Snap Fitness, Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness and a branch of Curves. 25th Street Fusion is a health bar and nutrition center operated by Herbalife. It serves a wide variety of nutritious shakes and smoothies, and is open during office hours.
Climate
Fargo is located on the Great Plains and is far removed from the influence of oceans, great lakes and mountains. Its climate is classified as extreme humid continental. The average high temperature in summer is 80 degrees Fahrenheit and in midwinter between 15 and 20 degrees. The winters are long and cold and windy. There are frequent snowfalls from November through April, and the summer months can become quite humid with thunderstorms.
