The BCB 605K Mid-Width Weight Bench is made by Body Champ. This bench is designed for use in home and is popular with experienced weight lifters. Your basic weight bench may be smaller and come with less features, but the BCB 605K Mid-Width bench gives you more weight training and storage options for use with barbells or dumbbells.

Features

The Body Champ BCB 605 K bench features an arm pad, a leg developer and storage racks and posts. The racks are for you to place your dumbbells on, which is much nicer than the floor. The posts accommodate the weight plates you use for the barbell and leg developer. A mid-width weight bench holds a 6 or 7 ft. barbell, which is larger than what a standard bench holds.

Benefits

This bench has some unique options not always found on other benches. The leg developer on this bench is adjustable, so that the foam pads can be moved to accommodate different leg lengths. Most leg developers do not have this option and as a result, may be uncomfortable or impossible to use based on your height.

The squat rack lets you do exercises like a chest press without a spotter, though a spotter is always helpful. Instead of having a spotter hand you a barbell after you lie down for presses, you can simply reach up and lift it off the bar. The arm pad is removable simply by removing a knob and pulling it up and out of the support.

Upper Body Exercises

Upper body exercises with a barbell or dumbbells on a weight bench are popular. The Body Champ bench inclines, so incline chest presses, incline chest flyes and incline shoulder presses are options that can be performed on this bench though you cannot do them on flat benches. Reverse flyes, single-arm rows and pullovers are options to work the back muscles. You can use the arm pad to do preacher curls, either with a dumbbell or a barbell. You can lean on the bench and do single-arm kickbacks, sit down to do tricep extensions or lie on the bench to do skull crushers with a barbell to target your triceps. Weight lifting exercises for every major muscle group of your upper body are possible on this bench.

Core Exercises

There are options to exercise the core muscles of your waist on the BCB 605K. The incline bench lets you do incline crunches. You can also do reverse crunches, crunches with rotation and leg lifts. Other core exercises to target your lower back and obliques are easier to do on the floor though.

Lower Body Exercises

The leg developer lets you add the amount of weight you want in the form of weighted plates to the post on the front near the foam rollers so you can sit and do leg extensions. You can also stand up and do hamstring curls. The rack that holds the barbell is also useful for doing squats. You can add plates to the barbell while it is on the rack, and then stand in front of the barbell at the back of the bench and then lift the barbell onto your shoulders without having to pull it all the way up from the floor. Sit on the bench to do tap squats, also called chair squats, or sit on the bench and place dumbbells on your knees to do seated calf raises.

Price

The BCB 605 K weight bench is no longer for sale by the manufacturer but you can find used models for around $75 to $150 as of fall 2010.
