Cyprus is one of many programs touting the benefits of hypnotherapy for smoking cessation. Hypnosis for smokers is intended to reduce the urge to smoke, strengthen your resolve and increase negative feelings toward smoking. However, the miraculous results claimed by hypnosis companies have not been proven by controlled trials. That doesn't mean hypnosis won't necessarily help you quit, but you'll likely need to employ several methods to help you break the habit for good.

Step 1

See a licensed, qualified hypnotherapist in your area. Your doctor can make a recommendation or referral for you if necessary.

Step 2

Try other self-help or therapeutic methods to help you quit. Behavioral therapy can help modify your smoking-related habits, while motivational techniques, such as calculating the money saved by quitting, can also be beneficial, according to HelpGuide.org.

Step 3

Use a nicotine patch or gum to help you quit if necessary. Most moderate to heavy smokers will need some type of nicotine replacement to help reduce cravings.

Step 4

Allow for setbacks. Resuming smoking temporarily doesn't mean you're a failure. Most smokers try to quit more than once. Follow up with your doctor and/or hypnotherapist regularly and seek out new quitting methods if needed.
