Yoplait yogurt comes in many different varieties and flavors. The company's Creamy Original, strawberry flavor, contains 23.6 grams of sugar -- or glucose -- per serving, which is 26 percent of the recommended daily intake, according to Yoplait.com. Sugar is the third ingredient listed, after low-fat milk and milk solids. Although sugar can make the taste of food more appealing, it provides a lot of calories and very little nutritional value, according to "Women's Health Magazine." Eating an abundance of sugar can cause health or medical problems.
Sagging Skin
Sugar can cause inflammation throughout your entire body, according to "Fitness Magazine." This same inflammation can lead to wrinkles by accelerating the aging process. The magazine reports that sugar breaks down collagen, and the loss of collagen leads to wrinkles and sagging of the skin. Elastin, a protein that also helps to maintain skin's elasticity, is also affected negatively by sugar. "Fitness Magazine" recommends choosing foods that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in them in order to maintain your skin; those foods include oregano, cinnamon, ginger and turmeric.
Cold and Flu
Sugar represses your white blood cells, according to "Fitness Magazine," which may increase your chance of catching a cold or the flu if you eat it in abundance. The magazine also reports that the inflammation that occurs from consuming sugar can also affect your immune system's ability to fight off and heal from illnesses like the cold or flu. Recommendation: Limit sugars to less than 10 percent of your daily calories and eat a lot of fruits and vegetables for their vitamins, minerals and antioxidant properties, which will help you fight off the cold and flu, rather than invite them in.
Sugar Addiction
Sugar affects the same pleasure receptor neurotransmitters in your brain as heroin and morphine. "Women's Health Magazine" reports that a high-sugar study done on rats showed withdraw symptoms in the test group whose feeding was delayed by 12 hours. "Women's Health Magazine" also reports that consuming high-sugar items, such as Yoplait yogurt and sodas, on an empty stomach may worsen their addictive properties. Additionally, as with drugs, your body becomes accustomed to increasing amounts of sugar; you will need to consume ever-larger quantities to achieve the same pleasurable feelings.
