Eggo is a popular brand of frozen breakfast foods made by Kellogg's. In addition to frozen waffles, Eggo products include frozen pancakes and fruit pizza.

Eggo waffles can be quickly heated in a toaster or toaster oven. Traditional Eggo waffles are available in several flavors, including homestyle, buttermilk, blueberry, strawberry and chocolate chip. Many people enjoy Eggo waffles for a light breakfast or a quick snack.

Ingredients

The basic ingredients of Eggo homestyle waffles are enriched flour, eggs, water, vegetable oil, leavening, salt and sugar. Eggo buttermilk waffles also contain buttermilk. the blueberry waffles have dried blueberries and apple fiber, the strawberry waffles have dried strawberries and apple fiber, and the chocolate chip waffles contain cocoa, vanilla, nonfat milk and chocolate.

One Eggo homestyle, chocolate or buttermilk waffle has 100 calories. The blueberry and strawberry Eggo waffles have 90 calories each.

Like other ready-made breakfast foods like cereals, Eggo waffles are enriched with vitamins to make them healthier. One Eggo homestyle waffle contains 3.5 g of total fat, which is about 5 percent of the total fat you should have on a 2,000-calorie diet. One waffle also contains 13.5 g of carbohydrates.

Nutri-Grain Waffles

Eggo also offers whole-grain frozen waffle products called Nutri-Grain. These frozen waffles have fewer calories and more fiber than traditional Eggo waffles. All flavors of Nutri-Grain waffles contain 1.5 g of dietary fiber per waffle.

One Nutri-Grain Waffle has 80 calories and 3 g of total fat. For one Nutri-Grain Low Fat waffle, the calorie count is 70 calories and 1.25 g of total fat. A single Nutri-Grain Blueberry waffles has 90 calories and 2.5 g of total fat.

Other Considerations

Although one Eggo waffle is relatively low in calories, dieters should watch their toppings. Pancake or maple syrup can add a lot of extra sugars and calories.

Diners can top an Eggo waffle with fresh fruit to add extra flavor and fiber. Some people also like to top their waffles with peanut butter or almond butter to add more protein.
