Facts on Cloth Diapers

1. New and Improved Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers are making a come back in the baby world. The new cloth diapers are quite different from those that many people, now grandparents, had the option to use. The big news is that there are no more diaper pins and the horrible plastic pant covers are gone.

2. Cushy For the Tushy

Cloth diapers are made of soft, absorbent cotton. The cotton is comparable to terry cloth or flannel. The flannel-type diaper would depict the higher quality. The diapers are held in place with Velcro-type fasteners, not pins. The diapers come in a variety of sizes, colors and styles depending on what company you purchase from. Plastic diaper covers are far more wearer friendly than those of the past. Some covers work with a diaper as a set. The cloth diapers are machine washable for continued use.

3. A Penny Here, A Dollar There

Depending on how you look at it, cloth diapers are more economical than disposable diapers. You have to make a financial investment at the beginning of use to purchase your cloth diapers. Baby stores and Internet sites all provide many choices at affordable rates of around $1 to $3 and up per diaper. Purchase the covers separately at around $2.50 and up each. Each new baby requires a minimum of two to three dozen to start. Of course, you have to replace the diapers as the baby grows adding additional cost. Even still, many feel that there is a financial savings of $1,500 to $2,000 in using cloth diapers over disposable diapers per child for a baby in diapers up to the age of two to three.

4. Wash a Diaper, Save the Planet

Cloth diapers are the choice of parents who are environmentally friendly. Many diaper companies sell organic cotton diapers. These cost a little more, but it's worth it to many parents to help the environment and feel it's best for their baby.

5. Baby Knows Best

New parents can purchase several sample of types and styles of cloth diapers to try, but in the end, your baby will make the final decision on which one she prefers. Test out several brands and see which ones your baby seems to be most comfortable and happy. All new parents learn that when baby is happy, everyone is happy.
