The Fat Flush diet program claims to help you shed unwanted pounds through liver detoxification and the reduction of certain foods, such as dairy products, from your diet. Although the diet's founder does not provide clinical evidence of the diet's success rate, she claims that the Fat Flush program is the only dietary system that helps you find and eradicate the hidden factors that sabotage your weight loss goals, including fear of eating fats, excessive bodily inflammation and food sensitivities, according to her official website.
Identification
Created by holistic nutritionist Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, the Fat Flush diet is a body detoxification and weight loss regimen that claims to rid your body of cellulite, help you lose pounds and inches, and teach you how to eat healthfully for the rest of your life. Gittleman also promises that her fat flush process will give you more energy, achieve better sleep, boost your metabolism and help stabilize your moods, according to her website.
Theories/Speculation
According to Gittleman, the Fat Flush program helps you cleanse your liver through the ingestion of quality carbohydrates, essential fats and balanced proteins. This combination accelerates your liver's ability to function at its highest level, and in turn improves your health and accelerates your weight loss, says Gittleman.
Phases
The Fat Flush diet consists of three distinct phases. The initial one- to two-week phase is designed to help you reduce water retention, and does not allow you to eat grains, cereals, alcohol, sugar, dairy products, starchy vegetables, margarine, or any fats or oils other than flaxseed oil, says Diet.com, on your 1,100- to 1,200-calorie per day regimen. Phase Two of the diet elevates your caloric intake to 1,200 to 1,500 calories and allows you to re-introduce starches such as sweet potatoes, brown rice and carrots into your diet while you mainly eat lean proteins, fruits and vegetables. Phase Three allows you a caloric intake of 1,500 calories or more, and suggests that your daily intake consist of 30 percent fat, 30 percent protein and 40 percent protein, says Diet.com. During Phase Three, you are allowed to re-introduce dairy products and gluten-free grains and cereals into your diet.
Considerations
"No clinical studies exist to support the effectiveness of this diet," says Maureen Callahan, a registered dietitian, on Health.com. Gittleman offers "skimpy" scientific evidence behind the diet's fat flush theory, and says that the Fat Flush diet is another restrictive-carbohydrate, low-calorie diet that may help you lose weight by eating fewer calories, not because your liver is burning off fat, says Callahan on Health.com.
Warning
Speak with your doctor about the Fat Flush diet program before you attempt it on your own to lose weight. You may have special dietary needs or food intolerances that the diet does not address, or you may have to abstain from eating certain foods the diet promotes to avoid possible negative interactions with your prescription medications.
