You can work your abs using a variety of exercises, techniques and equipment, including a device called an ab wheel. Ab wheels, commonly called Ab Rollers after the most well-known of these products, are an effective, low-cost tool for building core muscles. The principle is based on your using your abdominal muscles to roll your forward and back, side to side or up and down, using a single-wheel device holding a short bar through the center. Finding an ab roller is as easy as shopping for most any other piece of exercise equipment, and you should be able to find the right one for you with little research.
Step 1
Write your goals for abdominal fitness. You may be looking to start building your abs or to maintain what you have or to expand your existing routines. Note any injuries you may have, including those in the lower back or the arm.
Step 2
Perform an Internet search using the terms, "ab wheel" and "ab roller." Include the words, "reviews" and "comparison" to get search results that evaluate ab wheels. Look for credible sites, which often have an extension of .edu or .gov, rather than .com. Look for sites that do not sell a particular ab wheel to reduce the possibility that the information you receive presents a conflict of interest. Click on the "About Us," or other button or link that identifies the owner of the site.
Step 3
Read the results of your search. Look for information on quality of the manufacture of the device, ease of use, cost, warranty and weight limit. Look for independent user reviews of people who have bought and used ab wheels you are researching.
Step 4
Write a list of the brand names of ab wheels you find. Perform another search using the name of the product you want to research and the word "reviews" to see whether you can find credible evaluations of the product.
Step 5
Contact your local sporting goods store, including those that sell used equipment. Ab wheels are often made of sturdy material and should hold up to repeated use. A store that resells fitness equipment should examine any wheels they buy to ensure they are in good shape before they sell them to the public. Ask what models the store sells and the price.
Step 6
Check classified ad websites or sites where people buy and sell items directly to each other. Look at the seller's rating, if he has one.
