A Mediterranean-style diet is based around high consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, potatoes, seeds, eggs and cereals. Fats in the diet tend to be the more-healthful mono- and polyunsaturated varieties found in plant foods rather than the saturated fat found in red meat or the trans fat found in processed foods. Moderate consumption of wine is also a standard part of Mediterranean-style eating, but probably not for breakfast. There are, however, many options for breakfast that follow a Mediterranean-style diet.

Scrambled Eggs, Toast and Fruit

A Mediterranean-style breakfast may consists of scrambled eggs, a slice of whole-wheat toast -- unbuttered -- and a whole piece of fruit. Butter is not used on the Mediterranean Diet. This diet may be difficult to get used to if butter happens to be a favorite addition to toast, but try a nut butter as a substitute.

Fruit Melody

A breakfast comprised mostly of fruit is a delicious way to start the day. It is filled with carbohydrates that fuel the body. Whole-grain cereal with a small amount of low-fat milk well and some chopped fruits such as strawberries, bananas and pineapple is a great fruit-based breakfast, as well.

Vegetable Omelet

An omelet can be created with the vegetables of your choice. For example, a vegetable omelet may include green peppers, onion, garlic, potatoes and fresh dill for taste. The omelet can be changed each time by using different vegetables for variety.

Egg Sandwich

An egg sandwich can be a scrambled egg on whole-wheat bread. This can be accompanied by a small bowl of fresh fruit -- a mixture of different types makes the breakfast interesting. A bowl of blueberries with chopped pieces of banana and strawberries can work nicely, for example.

Peaches, Blueberries and Yogurt

Low-fat yogurt is another tasty breakfast idea. Adding blueberries and chopped peaches to the cup of yogurt creates a healthy and tasty meal. Although dairy is used sparingly by people following Mediterranean-style eating plans, some low-fat dairy products like yogurt, which also contains health-promoting probiotic ingredients can be an occasional breakfast option.
