How to Reduce Cellulite in Thighs

Cellulite results when fatty tissues get trapped in the connective tissues underneath your skin. The affected area develops a puckered, dimpled look. No matter what shape you are in, you can develop cellulite if your body does not properly dispose of toxins and fluid. Your thighs are one of the most susceptible areas, and cellulite reduction depends upon certain lifestyle changes.

Diet

Step 1

Fitness and weight-loss website inch-aweigh.com recommends that you drink at least 2 liters of water a day to help flush toxins out of your body--including the cellulite areas on your thighs. Squeeze a lemon's juice into the water for added flavor. According to squidoo.com, lemons aid your liver in body detoxification, and the vitamin C provides antioxidants to fight free radicals.

Step 2

Limit caffeine consumption. According to inch-aweigh.com, caffeine causes water retention, which leads to cellulite build-up in your thighs.

Step 3

Avoid junk food, which has preservatives that can build up as toxins in your body, resulting in cellulite. Replacing junk food with healthy alternatives over time will reduce the fat stores in your thighs and, eventually, the appearance of cellulite. Also, eliminate fried foods and those that are cooked in butter.

Exercises

Step 1

Perform lunges at least three times a week to help get rid of cellulite on your thighs. Keep your upper-body tall as you lunge out with one leg, landing on your heel, then switch legs. Start with 10 repetitions and gradually work up to more.

Step 2

Squat to reduce cellulite on your thighs. Stand straight with your feet aligned with your shoulders. Squat down, making sure your knees do not extend past your toes. Return to starting position. Do at least 10 repetitions three times a week.

Step 3

Inch-aweigh.com recommends yoga to help strengthen thigh muscles and increase blood circulation to reduce cellulite.

Tips and Warnings

  • Hold hand weights during squat and lunge exercises to burn more fat and increase bone density. A healthy diet and exercise go hand-in-hand to reduce the appearance of cellulite on your thighs. If you expect to see good results, you cannot do one and skip the other. Over-the-counter cellulite creams can be used in conjunction with these techniques, but these products on their own will not permanently remove the cellulite from your thighs.
  • If you have an underlying health condition, check with your doctor before trying any of these exercises. If your muscles strain, discontinue exercises.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Fresh lemons
  • Walking or running shoes
  • 3- to 5-pound hand weights
